About the Old Erie Canal Community Working Group
Who We Are
The Old Erie Canal community working group formed in 2014 as a result of the Bicyclist Bring Business workshop hosted in the City of Oneida. Meeting participants from Dewitt to Rome realized they all shared one common goal: improving the Old Erie Canal. The group, comprised of various government agencies, passionate local community members, non-profits, and canal related museums, come together monthly to advocate and improve the Old Erie Canal corridor (Dewitt to Rome).
Our Mission
Coordinate efforts and resources to create a more cohesive and utilized Old Erie Canal corridor in order to better preserve and share canal history and leverage it as a catalyst for economic vitality of surrounding communities.
Our Goals
Reconnect to and revitalize the Old Erie Canal waterway.
Distinguish the Old Erie Canal as a distinct place while reestablishing it as part of the State-wide asset.
Promote and increase awareness.
Increase coordination and partnerships and create a system wide vision.
When the Group Meets
Anyone can participate in the Old Erie Canal community working group meetings. If you are interested in helping us make an impactful and positive difference, our meetings are hosted at the Chittenango Landing Boat Museum on the second Thursday of each month at 2:30 P.M.
