The map above shows where the proposed “Local Waterfront Revitalization Area Boundary” for the Old Erie Canal Corridor LWRP will apply.
In general, this project area can be described as all of the NYS land associated with the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park plus a 1,000 foot buffer around the park as well as two feeder canals, a portion of the Barge Canal around Lock 21, and six canal-side downtown nodes.
The intent is to include all the communities along the 36-mile Old Erie Canal waterway, located within the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park, including the Town of DeWitt, Town of Manlius, Town of Sullivan, Town of Lenox, Town of Verona, Village of Fayetteville, Village of Chittenango, Village of Canastota, Village of Wampsville, City of Oneida and City of Rome (note: Town of DeWitt is close to finalizing their own separate LWRP but that effort is being coordinated with the development of this LWRP as it pertains to the Old Erie Canal).
Areas within this “Local Waterfront Revitalization Area Boundary” are the focus of the LWRP planning effort which will include specific goals and projects; moreover, once the plan is complete areas within this boundary will be eligible for implementation funding available from NYS DOS. State permitting, funding, and direct actions must be consistent, to the maximum extent practicable, with an approved LWRP so this boundary represents the area where that will be in effect as well.
This boundary was created through feedback from the municipalities and the public.
